Abstract: ABSTRACT SMART FOOTWEAR SYSTEM WITH EMBEDDED METAMATERIAL RF SENSOR ARRAY FOR NON-INVASIVE DETECTION AND MONITORING OF FOOT ULCERS The present invention relates to a metamaterial-based smart insole system for non-invasive detection and continuous monitoring of diabetic foot ulcers. The system comprises a multilayer insole structure integrating a flexible metamaterial sensor array based on complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) structures, a dielectric spacer layer, a protective biocompatible comfort layer, and a structural support base. The sensor array is configured to detect variations in plantar pressure distribution and dielectric properties of foot tissue by monitoring shifts in electromagnetic resonance characteristics. The system operates within the 2.4 GHz to 2.5 GHz ISM band and includes an embedded processing unit with an RF signal generator, RF detector, and signal processing module for real-time data acquisition and analysis. A wireless communication interface transmits the processed data to an external mobile device or monitoring system. The system further incorporates a machine learning-based diagnostic model for identifying early-stage ulcer formation and assessing risk levels. The invention enables continuous and wearable foot health monitoring during daily activities, providing early detection and preventive intervention for diabetic foot complications.
