MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611068484 A) filed by Chandigarh University on June 01, 2026, for Smart Elevator Enhancement System For Efficient And Safe Operation Using Sensor Technology.

Abstract: The proposed invention represents a low-cost, intelligent elevator system for better efficiency, shorter waiting times, and smart crowd management. Equipped with two short-range ultrasonic sensors and one IR sensor, the system detects and estimates the crowd waiting at each floor. Driven by microcontroller, it continuously calculates a Priority Score based on waiting time and crowd size, thus scheduling the stops fairly and efficiently. The system automatically cancels a false call in case some passengers have left before the arrival of the elevator thus, saving unnecessary stops and energy. It will also provide a height-based child safety mechanism that will not allow an unsupervised child below a height of 91 cm into the elevator to avoid accidents. Combining crowd detection in real time, adaptive scheduling, and onboard decision-making, the invention offers efficient alternative to conventional elevators at lower costs and is easy to implement across residential and commercial buildings.
