Abstract: This invention relates to a Smart Dustbin — IoT-Based Automated Waste Management and Sanitization System which is intended to enable contactless operation, waste level sensing, waste compaction, gas--sensing,-remote-alerts and- automatic-sanitization. An=E-SP32 microcontroller _ used as the main controlling component of the system which is connected to the Blynk IoT platform via Wi-Fi. An ultrasonic sensor senses presence of a person's hand, triggering an MG996R servo motor to open the lid automatically in a contactless way, whereas an IR sensor senses presence of garbage inside the dustbin at around 80% of the dustbin's capacity, sending remote alerts. A compaction mechanism automatically compresses the waste that accumulates, making efficient use of the space left in the dustbin, hence decreasing frequency of waste collection. A gas sensor (MQ-series) senses the gas levels of the air inside the dustbin, whereas a sanitization mechanism consisting of a liquid reservoir, a water pump, a pipe and a misting nozzle sprays water mist inside the dustbin. The invention allows for remote control, providing alerts for high waste level and abnormal gas conditions. The invention combines waste management, waste compaction, environmental monitoring and automatic sanitization in a compact device, decreasing human contact with waste and promoting a cleaner, safer and more hygienic waste-disposal environment.
