Abstract: The present invention relates to an Al-powered automated waste segregation system for identifying and mechanically separating individual waste items into biodegradable, non-biodegradable and e-waste categories. The system comprises ultrasonic waste detection, a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W with camera module, MoblIeNetV2-based TensorFlow Lite image classifier, an Arduino Nano, a DM542-driven NEMA 23 stepper motor, a s_ervo:hperated_discharge mechanism,-multiple waste compartments and an interactive touch display. An incoming item is detected, admitted into an inspection region and imaged. The edge processor classifies the image and produces a confidence value. A sufficiently confident prediction controls the rotating compartment mechanism. For an uncertain or previously unrecognized item, the touch display presents the captured image and category options for user selection. The selected category and image are stored as verified feedback data for subsequent periodic retraining and deployment of improved edge models. In one lightweight embodiment, the entry door is implemented as a rolling shutter driven by a continuous-rotation servo under software timing control.
