MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641074256 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology, Ramapuram Campus; and Easwari Engineering College on June 15, 2026, for Smart Bin – The Power Of Segregation.
Inventor includes Dr. J. Daisy Rani.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: Abstract The present invention relates to an automated, intelligent waste sorting receptacle that utilizes artificial intelligence and electromechanical actuation to categorize and segregate refuse at the point of disposal. The system comprises an outer enclosure featuring a single receiving opening for waste deposition. An integrated camera, situated above the receiving area, employs AI image recognition to identify the exact classification of the deposited waste. Housed within the main body is a motorized base mechanism supporting four distinct compartmentalized bins. Upon classification of the waste, a central motor rotates the internal base to align the appropriate bin beneath the receiving opening. A servo-controlled valve then actuates, allowing the refuse to drop into the designated compartment. This system entirely automates source separation, reducing cross-contamination in recycling and waste management processes.
