MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124644 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 15, 2026, for Sleep-Preserving Adaptive Ceiling Fan System And Method For Thermal Comfort And Energy Management.
Inventors include Dr Arulkumar V; and Sanjai B N.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT SLEEP-PRESERVING ADAPTIVE CEILING FAN SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR THERMAL COMFORT AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT An adaptive ceiling fan system (100) includes a variable-speed ceiling fan (108) driven by a fan-driving arrangement (110), a non-contact occupant sensing module (102) obtaining time-dependent movement information of a sleeping occupant, an environmental sensing arrangement (104) obtaining ambient temperature and relative humidity, an electrical-energy monitoring arrangement (112), and a power-management arrangement (114) charging a rechargeable energy-storage unit (116) and supplying the variable-speed ceiling fan (108) during mains-power interruption. A processing and control unit (106) analyzes movement frequency, duration, intensity and positional change over an observation period to distinguish isolated movement from a sustained pattern, combines the pattern with temperature and humidity to estimate comfort, and progressively modifies the fan operating condition toward a target. Occupant responses update a comfort-response profile (120). The fan operating condition is selected by weighing comfort deviation against energy consumption and unnecessary changes, and backup operation depends on estimated comfort and stored energy. (Fig. 1)
