MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511009643 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research on February 04, 2025, for Single-Step Process For Obtaining Pure Natural Menthol Crystals From Mentha Piperita.

Inventors include Amit Kumari; Shivani; and Probir Kumar Pal.

The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: Natural high-purity menthol isolation from peppermint essential oil is crucial for various industrial applications. This study developed a novel solvent-mediated crystallization approach for high-purity natural menthol extraction. The method employed a combination of Solvent 1 (polar) and Solvent 2 (non-polar) , facilitating rapid menthol crystallization within 14-24 hrs. The process achieved a high yield of 63.99%, with isolated menthol crystals exhibiting a melting point range of 42-44°C. GC-MS analysis confirmed exceptional purity, with a 97-100% menthol peak. This method is promising for high-yield, high-purity menthol production, offering significant potential for the food, medicine, and cosmetic industries.
