MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641104208 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Andhra Pradesh on August 29, 2026, for Single-Phase Five-Level Inverter And Method Of Operation.

Inventors include Dr. Sandeep Vuddanti; and Dr. Hari Charan Nannam.

The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.

Abstract: A single-phase five-level inverter (100) generates an alternating output voltage having five levels, +Vdc, +Vdc/2, 0, -Vdc/2 and -Vdc, from a single DC source (102). The inverter comprises a capacitor (104), a full-bridge circuit of four switches (110, 112, 114, 116), a fifth switch (118) connecting the source to an intermediate node (130), and first and second auxiliary switches (120, 122) connecting the intermediate node to two output nodes. The source reaches the load (106) through the fifth switch and one auxiliary switch along a path independent of the capacitor, while the capacitor reaches the load through the full-bridge circuit. The peak levels are produced from the source and the intermediate levels from the capacitor, which self-balances at Vdc/2 without a sensor or balancing circuit. The switches are driven by sinusoidal pulse width modulation.
