MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521019912 A) filed by Epsilon Advanced Materials Private Limited on March 05, 2025, for Silicon-Graphite Composites Using Silicon Precursors And Method Of Preparation.

Inventor includes Chinnasamy Natarajan.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for a negative electrode material in lithium-ion batteries, comprising 60 wt% to 80 wt% graphite, 1 wt% to 20 wt% silicon nanoparticles, 0 wt% to 15 wt% residual carbon and 0 wt% to 5 wt% silicon carbide, with a particle size ranging from 5 to 100 nanometers. The silicon nanoparticles are derived from a silicon precursor with a volume expansion of about 10 to 15%. The invention also provides a method for preparing this composition, wherein the materials are mixed, heated in a stepwise manner, and then cooled, resulting in a composite that exhibits improved electrochemical performance, cycling stability, and conductivity. The combination of graphite, silicon nanoparticles, and residual carbon stabilizes the structure, mitigating issues like volumetric expansion and mechanical degradation during charge-discharge cycles, thus enhancing battery efficiency and lifespan.
