Abstract: The placement of orthodontic separators using conventional separator pliers often requires the application of considerable force, especially in patients with tight inter- proximal contacts or inflamed gingival tissues. Excessive or uncontrolled force during separator placement can result in injury to the gingiva, interdental papilla, a n d -- --------adjacent oral soft tissues. To overcome these limitations, a silicone stop-enhanced orthodontic separator placing instrument has been developed. This instrument is based on a conventional separator placing plier design but incorporates small silicone stops at the terminal tips of the working beaks. These silicone stops serve as cushioning elements, absorbing excessive force and preventing direct metallic contact with oral tissues, thereby minimizing soft-tissue trauma during separator insertion. The silicone material used is biocompatible, compressible, and autoclavable, ensuring safety and durability. This invention improves patient comfort, enhances clinical safety, and reduces the risk of tissue injury without altering the fundamental technique of separator placement. The device represents a simple yet effective modification to a routinely used orthodontic instrument.
