Abstract: ABSTRACT The increasing use of renewable energy sources and converter-based microgrids has created challenges in fault detection and protection due to low fault current levels. This project presents a real-time short circuit analysis and monitoring system for a syncroconverter-based microgrid using the ESP8266 microcontroller. The syncroconverter emulates the behavior of a synchronous generator to improve voltage stability, frequency regulation, and virtual inertia support within the microgrid. Voltage and current sensors continuously monitor system parameters, and the ESP8266 processes the acquired data to detect abnormal conditions such as short circuits, overcurrent faults, and voltage dips. When a fault occurs, the controller activates a relay protection mechanism to isolate the faulty section and protect the system. The ESP8266 also enables wireless communication for real-time monitoring and data logging through IoT platforms. The proposed system offers a low-cost, reliable, and intelligent solution for improving the protection and monitoring of modern smart microgrid systems.
