MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641099980 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on August 19, 2026, for Shopping Trolleys With Line-Following Routes To Billing Section.
Inventors include Shaik Mahammad Sameer; Dr. N. Senthilkumar; and Dr Ramya Mohan.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The invention introduces an advanced, sensor-enabled shopping trolley equipped with an autonomous line-following navigation system designed to guide customers from various store zones directly to the billing section. Traditional trolleys rely entirely on manual pushing, which causes customer fatigue, difficulty maneuvering in crowded spaces, and inefficient movement across large supermarkets. This invention resolves these challenges by integrating infrared (IR) line sensors, a microcontroller-based processing unit, obstacle detection sensors, and motor-driven wheels to allow the trolley to independently follow predefined floor routes. The system enhances shopping efficiency, reduces customer effort, and ensures smoother traffic flow inside retail environments. It allows customers to simply load the trolley and activate the system, after which the trolley autonomously travels to the billing counter. Real-time navigation, stable speed control, safety shutoff mechanisms, and path correction algorithms ensure accurate and safe movement. This innovation transforms traditional retail systems by incorporating automation into trolley handling, offering a modern, safe, and highly efficient solution for enhancing customer experience in supermarkets.
