Abstract: Disclosed is a server rack thermal management apparatus comprising a rack frame with a plurality of server bays arranged in a vertical bay array, server-facing heat- transfer plates disposed at rear regions of selected server bays, vertical guide rails secured behind the server bays, and a sliding thermal spine movably supported by the vertical guide rails. The sliding thermal spine carries compressible thermal interface members facing the server-facing heat-transfer plates and comprises at least one fluid channel extending through the sliding thermal spine. The sliding thermal spine is movable between different vertical engagement positions and is mechanically pressable toward the server-facing heat-transfer plates to place selected compressible thermal interface members in thermal contact with selected server-facing heat- transfer plates while other server bays remain thermally bypassed.
