MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641099909 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on August 19, 2026, for Sensor-Integrated Dental Implant For Real-Time Monitoring Of Peri-Implant Health.

Inventors include B Sahithi; Dr Lokesh Sai K; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a sensor-integrated dental implant designed for continuous real-time monitoring of pen-implant tissue health and early detection of biological changes associated with pen-implant disease. The invention comprises a titanium dental implant integrated with miniaturized biosensors positioned within the implant collar, abutment region or implant body without affecting osseointegration or implant stability. The biosensor system. includes a pH sensor, temperature sensor, inflammatory biomarker sensor configured to detect biomarkers including Matrix Metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8), Interleukin-113 (IL-113) Tumor Necrosis Factor-a (TNF-a), and a microbial activity sensor for identifying pathogenic bacterial changes around the implant. The sensor array continuously monitors pen-implant tissue conditions and transmits biological information to an embedded microprocessor foiL signal processing and analysis. The invention further comprises a wireless communication module capable of transmitting implant health information to smartphones, tablets, cloud-based servers, or dental clini monitoring systems using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Near Field Communication (NFO, Wi-Fi, or equivalent wireless technologies. Upon detection of abnormal biological parameters exceeding predetermined physiological thresholds, an automated notification system immediately alerts both the patient and treating clinician, facilitating early diagnosis and timely intervention before irreversible pen-implant tissue destruction occurs. In a preferred embodiment, the invention further incorporates an artificial intelligence-based predictive analytics module capable of evaluating trends in continuously acquired sensor data and predicting the risk of pen-implant disease progression. This enables preventive treatment planning and personalized maintenance protocols based on individual patient risk profiles. The invention transforms conventional passive dental implants into intelligent diagnostic devices capable of continuous surveillance of peri-implant tissue health throughout the functional life of the implant. The system reduces operator dependency, minimizes the frequency of invasive clinical assessments, improves long-term implant success, anid enhances patient compliance by enabling predictive, preventive, and personalized implant maintenance.
