MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113904 A) filed by Mohan Babu University on September 23, 2026, for Sensor-Fusion Enabled Smart Mobility Stick With Adaptive Hazard Detection And Haptic Guidance.

Inventors include Dr. Kavitha Kothandasamy; Ms. Pasam Akshitha; Ms. Gamakonda Kumar Raja Monika; and Ms. Gontimukkala Venkata Sruthi.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a sensor-fusion-enabled smart mobility stick for assisting visually impaired individuals in navigating indoor and outdoor environments. The system comprises an elongated stick frame (100), an ultrasonic proximity sensing module (102), an inertial measurement unit sensor (104), a surface-condition sensing module (106), a microcontroller unit (108), a speech synthesis module (110), a vibration motor (112), a rechargeable power supply unit (114), a hazard- confidence evaluation module (116), and an adaptive power-management controller (118). The sensing modules acquire environmental information associated with nearby obstacles, terrain irregularities, staircases, slopes, potholes, wet surfaces, and abrupt elevation changes. Sensor data are processed through a sensor-fusion algorithm to generate confidence scores corresponding to detected hazards. The microcontroller activates auditory and haptic feedback mechanisms to notify the user in real time. The invention improves navigation safety, reduces false hazard detection, enhances energy efficiency, and provides a lightweight, scalable assistive mobility platform suitable for diverse operating environments.
