Abstract: Embodiments of this disclosure describe sensor-based smart bin system and method for moisture-based waste segregation and RFID-controlled access mechanism. The smart bin is developed using an Arduino-based system to facilitate automated collection, segregation, and monitoring of solid waste. The bin enables segregation of waste into wet and dry components using a moisture sensing mechanism, while an ultrasonic sensor records the level of waste collected. An infrared sensor allows automatic lid operation for user convenience, and an RFID-based mechanism prevents unauthorized access during waste collection through trap doors. The system further integrates a mobile application and cloud platform for real-time monitoring, data storage, and maintenance scheduling. A 12V solar cell is incorporated to provide self-sustained power, eliminating dependence on external electricity. The smart bin is simple, cost-effective, user-friendly, and suitable for deployment in public and commercial environments. FIG. 1
