Abstract: The present invention relates to a sensor-based Near Point of Convergence (NPC) measurement device for objective assessment of binocular convergence and detection of exophoria. The device comprises a motorized fixation target movable along a measurement axis, a position sensing unit, an eye-tracking module, an automated occlusion mechanism and a control unit. The eye-tracking module acquires eye-position information of both eyes during movement of the fixation target. The control unit correlates target position with eye-position information to determine a convergence break point and a convergence recovery point. The automated occlusion mechanism selectively occludes one eye, while the eye-tracking module acquires ocular-position information associated with the occlusion. A processor determines latent horizontal ocular deviation from the ocular-position change and calculates an exophoria value. The determined NPC and exophoria measurements are digitally displayed and stored, thereby providing an automated, standardized and repeatable binocular vision assessment.
