Abstract: A highway pedestrian-crossing safety system comprises a vehicle speed detection sensor assembly (102), a pedestrian detection sensor (104), a microcontroller unit (106), a visual warning indicator (108), an audible warning unit (110), a display unit (112), a servo motor (114), and a traffic barrier (116). The vehicle speed detection sensor assembly (102) comprises speed detection sensors positioned at a predefined distance, and the microcontroller unit (106) determines approaching vehicle speed from the distance and a time difference between successive sensor activations. The pedestrian detection sensor (104) detects pedestrian presence at a designated crossing zone. Upon concurrent determination of pedestrian presence and vehicle speed exceeding a predefined safety threshold, the microcontroller unit (106) actuates the servo motor (114) to position the traffic barrier (116) for stopping the vehicle. The barrier (116) is reopened upon determination that the crossing zone is clear. The indicators (108, 110) provide warnings and the display unit (112) displays vehicle speed and system status.
