Abstract: The sensor (10), which is in particular a capacitive sensor (10), comprises an earthed housing (11) as a first electrode and an electrically conductive sensor element (12) in the housing as a second electrode. The sensor (10) also comprises a measurement unit (13) and an evaluation unit (14). The sensor (10) is suitable for detecting a change in a fill level of a container (2) filled with a material (20). In the event of a change in the fill level, the measurement unit (13) is configured to detect a change in the voltage applied to the sensor element (10) as a signal. The evaluation unit (14) is configured to determine a rate of change (4) of the fill level by means of the signal from the sensor (10).
