Abstract: ABSTRACT Semi-Autonomous Surveillance Rover for Remote Area Monitoring and Intrusion Detection using Internet of Things Continuous surveillance of large or sensitive areas is rarely feasible through manual patrolling alone, since it requires personnel to be physically present at the site around the clock, often at considerable risk in hazardous or remote conditions. Security being a growing concern across residential, industrial, and border regions, the issue of an affordable, easily deployable methodology to monitor such areas still exists. Our invention of a Semi-Autonomous Surveillance Rover, fitted with a 360-degree camera and motion detection system, automates the task of area monitoring, and stands as a part of the solution for security personnel to achieve wider coverage with reduced manpower. The rover was developed based on multidisciplinary areas under embedded systems, robotics, and wireless communication principles. The output of the vision and motion-sensing system on the rover is analyzed to determine the presence of an intruder or obstacle, and an alert is sent to the operator through the interne, along with live control of the rover's movement over a long-range remote link. This is applied to develop an automatic, round-the-clock surveillance and alert system operable from a remote distance.
