MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641115713 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 28, 2026, for Semi-Automated High-Speed Blind Hole Drilling Apparatus For Residual Stress Measurement.
Inventors include Anoj Giri; Anilkumar S; and Abhishek Kallur.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: A semi-automated high-speed blind hole drilling apparatus (100) comprises a machine base (13), guide columns (7) supporting a crossbeam (8), and a spindle head assembly (4) having a spindle motor (3) operatively coupled to a spindle (5). A work table (9) supports a test specimen and is positionable through an X-axis handwheel (11) and a Y-axis slide (10) having a Y-axis handwheel (12). A Z-axis positioning mechanism (14) comprising a precision lead screw and linear guide mechanism controls incremental vertical displacement of a drilling tool. A feed handle (1) and depth scale or stop collar (2) facilitate controlled drilling depth. The spindle motor (3) provides high-speed drilling, while mutually transverse X-Y positioning and controlled Z-axis movement provide precise alignment and depth control. A strain sensing interface (6) is configured for integration with strain acquisition and depth monitoring.
