Abstract: Disclosed is a self-validating disposable blood group determination card comprising a porous hydrophilic sheet substrate and a hydrophobic barrier pattern defining a sample inlet and first, second and third capillary flow paths. The flow paths comprise respective antigen-reaction zones carrying dried Anti-A antiserum, dried Anti-B antiserum and dried Anti-D antiserum for determining A, B, AB and O blood group and Rhesus D blood group from a whole-blood sample. First, second and third indicator regions are respectively disposed downstream of the antigen-reaction zones and comprise dried wetting-responsive visual markers. Blood applied at the sample inlet is passively conveyed through each antigen-reaction zone to its corresponding indicator region. Agglutination observed in the antigen-reaction zones is interpreted only when each indicator region exhibits visible marker activation, thereby indicating sample passage through each diagnostic flow path without requiring an electrically powered reader.
