The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a self-sterilizing food-packaging assembly (100) for in-package microbial reduction. The self- sterilizing food-packaging assembly (100) includes a packaging body (102) defining an interior volume configured to contain food (116), one or more ultraviolet-C (UV-C) micro-light-emitting diodes (micro-LEDs) (104) disposed on or within the packaging body (102) and configured to emit UV-C radiation toward the interior volume, circuitry (106) electrically coupled to the one or more UV-C micro-LEDs (104), a control module (108) operatively coupled to the circuitry (106), and at least one safety arrangement associated with the packaging body (102). The control module (108) selectively actuates the one or more UV-C micro-LEDs (104) to perform one or more sterilization cycles by directing UV-C radiation into the interior volume for reducing microbial load therein. The at least one safety arrangement is configured to reduce UV exposure outside the packaging body (102).
