Abstract: ABSTRACT Self-Regulating Dual-Path Zigzag Riser Solar Collector with Passive Thermohydraulic Flow Control The present disclosure relates to a system and method for adaptive natural circulation solar water heating. The system includes a segmented absorber plate thermally coupled to a flow path of low hydraulic resistance and a graded zigzag flow path between common manifolds. A flow switching assembly selectively distributes water between the paths as a function of a thermal driving condition calculated from temperature, pressure, flow-rate and irradiance measurements. Upon start-up water is pumped through the low resistance path to set up buoyancy driven circulation. Increasing the thermal driving force gradually supplies water along the zigzag path to disrupt a thermal boundary layer and thus improve convective heat transfer. Intermediate chambers repressurise and remove vapour buildup. An assembly preventing reverse circulation limits loss of heat at nite and an assembly preventing stagnation controls excess collector temperature. Improved thermal-hydraulic performance through coordinated operation of flow paths and protective modules without the need for continuous pumped circulation under variable solar and ambient operating conditions.
