Abstract: ABSTRACT SELF-POWERED RECONFIGURABLE INTELLIGENT SURFACE The present invention discloses a self-powered reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) system that operates autonomously using ambient radio frequency (RF) energy. The system comprises a rectifying antenna (rectenna) for harvesting RF signals, a power limiter circuit for regulating the harvested energy, and an oscillator circuit for generating binary control signals. These signals drive RIS elements incorporating RF switches and delay lines to achieve 1-bit reflective state control. The configuration enables each RIS element to toggle between open- and short-circuit conditions, thereby producing dynamic reflection patterns. The invention eliminates reliance on external power or batteries, reduces maintenance, and supports scalable deployment. By integrating energy harvesting, power conditioning, and autonomous switching in a compact design, the system provides a cost-effective, low- maintenance, and sustainable solution for wireless communication, particularly in 5G/6G networks, IoT devices, and smart city infrastructures.
