Abstract: The increasing use of IoT devices has also increased security risks, as a compromised device can be used for data theft, unauthorized access, or network attacks. Traditional security methods mainly depend on fixed rules and known attack patterns, making them less effective against new attacks. The proposed Self-Healing IoT Gateway continuously monitors IoT device traffic and collects features such as packet rate, communication frequency, protocol, and traffic volume. A Graph Neural Network (GNN) is used to identify unusual communication behavior, while an Autoencoder detects unknown attacks by comparing current behavior with normal patterns. When a device is identified as compromised, a Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO)-based Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) agent selects a suitable response, such as restricting, quarantining, or isolating the device. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) then automatically applies the required network rules to block the compromised device. After security verification, the device can be safely re-authenticated and reconnected. Thus, the proposed system provides an automated and intelligent approach for detecting, isolating, and recovering compromised IoT edge devices.
