MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621052716 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhilai on April 24, 2026, for Self-Healing Conductive Hydrogel And Method Of Its Fabrication Thereof.

Inventors include Banerjee, Sanjib; Sinha, Durgesh Kumar; Singh, Nishikanta; and Onkarnath.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a self-healing conductive hydrogel composition comprising a double-network polymer matrix including carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt (0.5–3.0 wt%), polyvinyl alcohol (2–10 wt%) interpenetrating with the carboxymethyl cellulose, polymerized acrylic acid (4–15 wt%) providing carboxylate groups for ionic conductivity, tannic acid (0.05–0.5 wt%) forming hydrogen bonding networks enabling self-healing capability, and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (0.01–0.1 wt%) providing covalent crosslinks. The hydrogel exhibits autonomous self-healing recovering 70–85% of original tensile strength within 0.5 to 2 hours at room temperature. The pristine hydrogel exhibits tensile strength of 7.0–9.0 MPa with maximum elongation of approximately 400% at break. Electrical conductivity is 0.044 S/cm. The sensor exhibits response time of 0.52 s and recovery time of 0.85 s, with strain-dependent gauge factor of approximately 6.3 at 0–50% strain, and stable performance over 200 cycles, enabling detection of speech vibrations, swallowing movements, and joint bending.
