Abstract: The present invention discloses a novel self-curing concrete composition that incorporates polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) as an internal curing agent along with 10% replacement of cement by Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS). This innovative formulation eliminates or substantially reduces the need for conventional external water curing by retaining moisture internally within the concrete matrix, thereby ensuring continuous hydration of cementitious materials even in challenging environments. The self- curing mechanism provided by PEG-400 works synergistically with GGBS to enhance workability, accelerate strength development, and improve microstructural density. Experimental evaluations on M50 grade concrete mixes demonstrated optimal performance at 2% PEG-400 dosage by weight of cement, resulting in approximately 12.1% increase in compressive strength, 6.88% increase in split tensile strength, and 13.2% increase in flexural strength compared to the control mix at 28 days. Microstructural analysis further confirmed a denser matrix with refined pores and enhanced formation of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel. This invention offers a sustainable, economical, and practical solution for construction in water-scarce regions, high-rise structures, and remote locations while promoting the utilization of industrial by-products for environmental benefits.
