The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a self-cleaning, superhydrophobic coated glass article and a method of making it. On a glass substrate (10), a silica or silane bonding layer (12), a microstructured silica layer (14) and a nanostructured silica-nanoparticle layer (16) form a lotus-leaf-mimetic hierarchical micro-nano roughness, which is covered by a low-surface- energy layer (18) of plant wax, fatty acid derivative or alkylsilane. A thin, transparent silica or organosilica protective network (20) conforms to the roughness, penetrates its interstices and is continuous with the bonding layer, so that the hierarchical structureis mechanically anchored to the glass while remaining at the low-energy outer surface. Optional titanium dioxide (22) decomposes organic contaminants. The coating targets a water contact angle above 150°, a sliding angle below 10° and visible transmittance above 90 percent, for architectural, automotive, photovoltaic, greenhouse and optical glass.
