Abstract: Title: Self-Calibrating Road Condition Assessment and Maintenance System Using Crowdsourced Vehicle Sensor and Geolocation Data A self-calibrating road-quality assessment system uses crowdsourced motion-sensor and geolocation data from mobile computing devices associated with vehicles for substantially continuous road- condition monitoring. Vehicle-specific vibration characteristics (104) are learned using geographically matched reference road data to normalize sensor responses across heterogeneous vehicles. Acquired vibration data is filtered, location-correlated, compared with historical road-condition information and processed to identify candidate road events (106). Observations from multiple independently travelling vehicles (107) are aggregated to validate detected events, while spatial-temporal consistency analysis distinguishes pavement distress from persistent road features (108). Artificial-intelligence processing classifies validated road events and determines a road-condition severity measure (109), including an International Roughness Index-equivalent value and/or Road Condition Index (110). Upon satisfaction of a maintenance criterion, the system automatically generates maintenance information comprising the geographic location and condition of a validated road defect for communication to a maintenance-management platform (111), thereby enabling scalable road monitoring, reliable defect validation, severity assessment and automated maintenance initiation (112).
