MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641106018 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on September 03, 2026, for Self-Calibrating Bracket Debonding Tool.
Inventors include Kilari Surya; Dr. Arangasamy R; and Dr Ramya Mohan.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: This invention presents a novel mechatronic debonding device designed for the controlled and safe removal of orthodontic brackets during the final stage of dental treatment. The system utilizes a precision load cell integrated with an ESP32 microcontroller to monitor tension in real time during the debonding process. The captured data is processed with millisecond latency, enabling an automated "Auto-Halt" mechanism that stops the motorized actuator instantly upon bond failure. This interface allows dental professionals to observe force patterns on an integrated OLED screen, providing a non-invasive and efficient solution for preventing iatrogenic enamel damage. Traditional debonding methods rely on manual pliers, which are subject to operator variability and often result in sudden, high-impact force that can cause enamel micro-fractures and patient anxiety. This invention addresses these limitations by offering a compact, portable, and sensor-driven alternative that ensures incremental force application. The use of embedded systems enables precise signal acquisition and automated safety interrupts, while the real-time visualization enhances clinical accuracy. The system is designed to be user-friendly and adaptable for both routine clinical practice and advanced orthodontic research. Furthermore, the proposed device supports the standardization of debonding procedures, which is a key indicator of high-quality patient care and enamel preservation. By providing immediate haptic and visual feedback, it assists orthodontists in making informed decisions regarding force thresholds and monitoring patient comfort. The scalability of the system also allows future integration with wireless communication, mobile applications, and cloud-based data analytics for comprehensive digital health record keeping.
