Abstract: A rising number of phishing attacks as well as phishing websites is becoming a concern for security of internet users and organizations worldwide. The conventional techniques of blacklist and signature-based systems have had little effect against new forms of phishing attacks such as zero day attacks. Therefore, a new technique known as SecureSurf has been introduced. In this methodology, continuous scanning of webpages based on their URLs is done with the help of browser extensions, while real-time detection of phishing sites is done with the help of machine learning. Attributes such as length of the URL, presence of HTTPS protocol, reputation of the domain, suspicious words/phrases, redirections, and special characters in URLs/ domains are extracted to predict the URL/domain category as Safe, Suspicious, and Phishing through ML algorithms such as Random Forest and LightGBM. The overall structure of this system involves a backend API server where the communication occurs along with the predictions being made
