Abstract: The present invention relates to a secure intelligent archival shelf system for authenticated custody, tracking, and tamper-evident management of sensitive physical documents. The system comprises a shelving structure having multiple storage compartments, machine-readable identifiers associated with documents, a sensing arrangement for detecting document presence and movement, an authentication module for validating authorized users, a controller for correlating access with document events, and a communication interface for updating a digital catalogue. Upon successful authentication, the system selectively permits access to a relevant compartment and automatically records removal, return, or anomaly events with time and identity data. A protected audit log maintains a verifiable chain-of-custody, while encrypted communication supports alerts, search, and administrative monitoring. The invention improves physical-document accountability, security, retrieval accuracy, and compliance readiness in archives handling classified, confidential, valuable, or sensitive records.
