MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072748 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 11, 2026, for Secure Blockchain-Based Online Voting System With Multi-Factor Authentication.

Inventors include Vanitha M; Ranjit. G; and Ambalavanan. M.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: SECURE BLOCKCHAIN-BASED ONLINE VOTING SYSTEM WITH MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION The present invention discloses a secure blockchain- based online voting system with multi-factor authentication. The system comprises a user interface module, an authentication module, a biometric processing module, a blockchain vote storage module, a smart contract vote locking module, and a vote counting module. The authentication module sequentially performs government- issued identity verification, voter ID validation, one-time password (OTP) verification, and biometric verification before authorizing vote casting. The biometric processing module generates a dynamic biometric hash from verified biometric data for secure voter authentication. The blockchain vote storage module converts a cast vote into an encrypted blockchain vote transaction and records the encrypted blockchain vote transaction within a blockchain ledger together with cryptographic hash values and timestamp information to maintain transparency and immutability of voting records. The smart contract vote locking module prevents duplicate voting, while the vote counting module automatically generates election results through blockchain smart contract execution.
