Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention discloses SafePrep, an impedance-based chairside diagnostic device and system for the real-time assessment of remaining dentin thickness during cavity preparation and caries excavation procedures. The system comprises a teeth probe, a reference electrode in the form of a lip clip, an alternating current (AC) signal generator, a signal conditioning and filtering unit, a microcontroller-based processing unit, a visual display module, and color-coded LED indicators. An AC excitation signal is applied to the tooth through the probe, while the lip clip provides a return pathway, thereby enabling measurement of the electrical impedance of the tooth structure. The measured impedance values are processed and compared with predefined calibration data to estimate the remaining dentin thickness. The corresponding dentin thickness range is subsequently displayed through an LCD display and visual LED indicators, providing immediate clinical feedback to the operator. The invention facilitates objective assessment of dentin thickness, supports minimally invasive caries removal, assists in preserving pulpal vitality, and reduces the risk of accidental pulpal exposure during restorative dental procedures. The device is applicable to both primary and permanent dentition and may be utilized in pediatric dentistry, operative dentistry, restorative dentistry, and endodontic practice.cilitate
