MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641106213 A) filed by Saveetha Engineering College on September 03, 2026, for Ruthenium-Based Dye-Sensitized Solar Cellwith Iodide/Triiodide Electrolyte.

Inventor includes Dr. Vinothkumar Panjanathan.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: Ruthenium-Based Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell with Iodide/Triiodide Electrolyte Abstract A dye-sensitized solar cell (DS SC) comprising a ruthenium-based sensitizing dye (e.g., N719 or N3 complex) adsorbed onto a mesoporous titanium dioxide (Ti02) photoanode of 10- 15 nm thickness is disclosed. The photoanode is deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) conducting glass and sensitized in a 0.3 mM dye solution for 18-24 hours. A platinum-coated counter electrode is assembled with an iodide/triiodide (I-/I3-) redox electrolyte comprising 0.6 M 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide, 0.05 M iodine (I2), and 0.5 M 4-tert-butylpyridine in acetonitrile. The resulting cell exhibits a short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 16.8 mA/cm2, an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.72 V, a fill factor (FF) of 0.68, and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.2% under AM 1.5G illumination (100 mW/cm2). The invention improves dye loading and electron transport, reducing recombination losses and enhancing long-term photovoltaic stability.
