Abstract: Electricity plays a vital role in the daily life and economic development of rural communities. However, power distribution lines in rural areas are highly vulnerable to faults caused by environmental conditions such as tree branches, heavy rainfall, strong winds, damaged conductors, and insulator failures. In many rural locations, these faults are identified only after consumers report power interruptions, resulting in delayed maintenance, longer outage durations, and increased operational costs. The proposed project, "Rural Area Power Line Fault Detection and Alert System", is designed to detect power line faults at an early stage and provide immediate alerts to the concerned authorities. The system utilizes voltage and current sensing techniques to continuously monitor the condition of the distribution line. Whenever an abnormal condition is detected, the fault location is identified using a GPS module, and the fault information along with the accurate geographical coordinates is transmitted through an IoT communication module to a cloud platform. An instant alert message containing the fault details and exact location is then sent to the maintenance personnel, enabling them to locate the fault quickly and restore the power supply with minimum delay. The proposed system aims to improve the reliability, safety, and efficiency of rural power distribution networks by reducing fault detection time and minimizing power interruption. The integration of IoT technology, GPS-based fault localization, cloud monitoring, and real-time alert notifications provides a cost-effective and intelligent solution suitable for rural electrification systems. The project contributes to the modernization of conventional fault monitoring methods by enabling continuous real-time observation, accurate fault localization, and faster decision-making during fault conditions.
