Abstract: The project “RTL-Based Implementation of Finite State Machines for IoT Sensor Nodes” explains how IoT devices are controlled and managed by hardware based logics. Generally, IoT sensor nodes are operated using software and firmware logic of microcontrollers to sense the data, process the data , communicating with the components , and proper power management. Finite State Machines will define the transitions of systems with defined states. In this approach, each active state of an IoT sensor node—IDLE, SLEEP, WAKE_UP, SENSOR_READ, DATA_PROCESS, TRANSMIT, and RETURN_TO_SLEEP—is defined properly and controlled by the hardware logic. Transitions between different states are initiated by inputs or output signals like clock signals, reset signals, sensor ready signals or transmission completion signals. Designing FSMs in hardware enables the system to behave in a predictable manner with proper evaluation of all conditions.
