Abstract: TITLE OF INVENTION: A rolling ankle joint ABSTRACT: The present invention relates to a rolling ankle joint (100) designed for use in prosthetic limbs, enabling compliant and controlled articulation with enhanced energy efficiency. The joint comprises a rigid track assembly (300) with a plurality of track holes (311) and fixed ridges (310), a roller arm (400) that follows the contour of the track (300) to provide guided rolling motion, and a cable (200) that links the track (300) and roller (400). This configuration induces a snapping mechanism that stabilizes the joint after displacement, simulating natural human ankle biomechanics. The cable routing and tensioning system enable precise adjustment, symmetric loading, and reduced torsional deformation. Mechanical end stops define a safe angular range, while energy storage and return during gait improve walking efficiency and user comfort. The components are fabricated from lightweight, durable materials, and the cable is coated to minimize friction and wear. This joint supports single-degree-of-freedom, reversible motion tailored for prosthetic applications.
