Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a vision-based gesture-controlled robotic arm system (100) comprising a webcam (102) configured to capture, in real time, an image of a hand gesture of a user; a processing unit (104) configured to process the captured image, to detect the hand gesture therefrom without requiring a wearable sensor or glove device to be worn by the user, and to map the detected hand gesture to a motion command; a controller (106) configured to receive the motion command and to generate a drive signal; a plurality of servo motors (108) configured to be actuated in accordance with the drive signal; and a robotic arm (110) having a plurality of joints coupled to the plurality of servo motors (108), configured to move in accordance with actuation thereof, so as to move in correspondence with the hand gesture of the user in real time. The system (100) further comprises a power supply unit (112), a breadboard (114) and a plurality of jumper wires (116) for electrically interconnecting the controller (106), the plurality of servo motors (108), the power supply unit (112) and the webcam (102). The invention provides a low- cost, contactless, real-time gesture-controlled robotic arm suitable for health and industrial applications. The figure associated with abstract is Fig. 1.
