MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621058250 A) filed by Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute Of Technology, Pimpri, Pune on May 07, 2026, for Robotic Arm Design For The Forging Machine.
Inventors include Dr. Chandrika Wagle; Om Vilas Shinde; Minal K Shende; and Gaurav T Jadhav.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The robotic arm, due to its multiple degrees of freedom and single velocity unit, is controlled by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), which is linked to one of the axis position control units and one of the motors. Motor codes are utilized to create an online function that allows real-time, highly accurate control of the robotic arm. The design positions the motor at the base, reducing concerns about its weight. This mechanism can boost production rates by up to five times, aiming to enhance efficiency by reducing manpower while maintaining maximum productivity. The proposed design focuses on industrial automation, enabling device monitoring from any distance. A microcontroller is employed to oversee the components based on sensor data, regulating tasks like temperature control. The temperature sensors feed information to the microcontroller, which automatically adjusts operations as needed. The project’s main objective was to design and develop a robotic arm mechanism for lifting and placing tasks. The robotic arm, equipped with six degrees of freedom, was programmed for accurate handling of lightweight materials, contributing to industrial production lines. A Squirrel Cage Brake Motor was used to link components and facilitate arm movement. Initial testing and validation of the arm showed that it could effectively perform lifting tasks. The arm was designed to closely mimic human arm movements, with full extension, ensuring it can lift, move, lower, and release work pieces smoothly. It was essential that the arm could consistently pick up and place objects without dropping them. After thorough research, the choice of end effector was finalized to meet these criteria.
