Abstract: ABSTRACT ROADSIDE EDGE-COMPUTING SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING INFRASTRUCTURE USING A SPATIOTEMPORAL HAZARD FIELD A method (700) for controlling roadside infrastructure acquires time-stamped observations of a monitored road segment (200) from roadside sensing units (110). An edge-computing unit (120) generates a spatiotemporal hazard field (300) whose grid or voxel cells (310) maintain hazard-related attributes (330), including an occupancy probability (332) and an occlusion uncertainty (338). An environmental transfer modifier (410) and an occlusion modifier (420) alter the hazard field (300) into a coupled hazard field (430), from which a short-horizon predicted hazard field (520) is obtained. An infrastructure response is selected from a graduated hierarchy (560), and connected roadside infrastructure (180) is actuated accordingly. A signal-level response (565) is suppressed, and a lower-impact response selected, when a stopping-distance admissibility condition (580) is not satisfied. After re-acquiring observations, the response level is reduced stepwise toward baseline operation (561) when an integrated hazard index (550) remains below a de-escalation threshold for a hold interval.
