MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641087894 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on July 17, 2026, for Risk-Adaptive Multimodal Biometric Authentication System For Secure File Access.

Inventors include R. Kannadasan; Dhanvanth. Y; and Sarveshwaran R.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT RISK-ADAPTIVE MULTIMODAL BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION SYSTEM FOR SECURE FILE ACCESS A method for risk-adaptive multimodal biometric authentication for secure file access comprises receiving, by an adaptive controller (100), an access request from a user (10) for a resource in a file management system (200). A role-based access control policy engine (110) retrieves a role label and sensitivity score. A risk engine (120) computes a composite risk score mapped to a risk tier. A challenge generator (130) generates a randomized biometric challenge specifying modalities from a probabilistic distribution table parameterized by the risk tier. Biometric modules (140) capture biometric input. A liveness and quality scoring module (150) computes liveness and quality scores. A fusion engine (160) computes adjusted modality weights based on base weights, quality scores, liveness scores, and the composite risk score, computes a fused biometric score, and computes a risk-scaled threshold. Access is granted or denied by comparing the fused score to the threshold. (Fig. 1)
