MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641081446 A) filed by Dr. Clinto C O on July 01, 2026, for Rigid Thorax Dosimetric Phantom For Quality Assurance In Radiotherapy.
Inventor includes Dr. Clinto C O.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a rigid, anatomically representative thorax dosimetric phantom for radiation oncology medical physics applications. The phantom comprises a Nylon-6 base structure incorporating lung-equivalent inserts, soft-tissue-equivalent tumor targets, and bone-equivalent vertebral components. A distinctive feature of the invention is the use of modular 1 cm-thick Styrofoam inserts that enable flexible customization of tumor locations without compromising structural integrity. The phantom supports both point dosimetry using an ionization chamber and planar dosimetry using radiochromic films through dedicated measurement configurations. The present phantom provides a cost-effective alternative to imported commercial phantoms while maintaining high functionality for quality assurance, end-to-end verification, and dose calculation validation, thereby supporting accurate radiation treatment delivery to cancer patients.
