Abstract: TITLE: REUSABLE SELF-DRAINING AND SELF-VENTILATING BIODEGRADABLE HYGIENIC COVER FOR SCHOOL LUNCH SPOONS APPLICANT: MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a reusable, self-draining and self-ventilating biodegradable hygienic cover for lunch spoons. The cover comprises a biodegradable composite shell formed of bamboo microfibers, rice-husk silica, and lignin-based natural binders, dimensioned to enclose the bowl portion of a spoon while leaving the handle exposed. A suspended-contact internal architecture with micro-support nodes maintains a continuous air gap between the spoon surface and shell, reducing moisture retention. A biomimetic capillary drainage network channels residual water through intersecting micro-channels toward a dedicated drainage outlet. A passive labyrinth ventilation system with concealed, zig-zag airflow pathways enables continuous air circulation while resisting ingress of dust and contaminants. A universal adaptive locking mechanism, fabricated from a biodegradable elastomeric cellulose-rubber composite, secures the cover onto spoons of varying dimensions. Replaceable bio-active inserts comprising chitosan and coconut-shell activated carbon assist in odor reduction. The invention provides a portable, environmentally sustainable solution for hygienic spoon storage and transportation.
