MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631071923 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology Patna on June 10, 2026, for Retrofitting Disused Well Shaft.
Inventors include Kumar, Santosh; and Kumar, Ravish.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an adaptive reuse system for heritage wells. The system (100) includes a planter basin (102) including an outer cylindrical wall (102-4), a shaft (104) having an inner cylindrical surface (104-2), a seating structure (106) including access gaps (106-2B), and a rhizobarrier (102-6A). The outer cylindrical wall (102-4) establishes a structural reinforcement interface through direct radial contact with the inner cylindrical surface (104-2) to oppose lateral earth pressures. A fluid egress (102-8) establishes a directional fluid path away from the seating structure (106) via conduits (102- 8A) aligned with the access gaps (106-2B). The rhizobarrier (102-6A) generates a mechanical block against biological root extension to safeguard the seating structure (106). Unlike conventional infill approaches, this approach utilizes mechanical- biological synergy and coordinated fluid management to deliver structural stabilization and shaded public amenities tailored to heritage urban landscapes.
