Abstract: A machine (1) is arranged to prepare a beverage from an ingredient contained in a capsule (100) by supplying an extraction liquid therein, The machine (1) has: a machine outlet ((55)) configured to dispense beverage externally towards aa user - recipient (9); and a seat (10,20) for holding the capsule (100) during beverage preparation. The seat ((1100,,2200)) includes: a seat liquid inlet (14,14') configured for delivering the extraction liquid to the capsule (100); and at least one seat outlet (15,15') at the capsule (100) configured to guide beverage from the capsule (100). The seat outlet (15,15') is associated with a capsule outlet opener (15a, 15a'). The machine (1) has a beverage passage (5') extending from the seat outlet(s) (15,15') up to the machine outlet (5). The seat outlet (s) (15,15'), the beverage passage (5') and the machine outlet (5) form an outflow path (5,15,15') having a direction of beverage flow extending therealong and a flow cross - section transverse to the direction of flow along the outflow path (5,15,15'). The flow cross - section along the direction of flow has a smallest cross - section with a surface area of at least 4.5 mm2. For example, the capsule (100) is made of a soft and/or tearable material, such as a material that is cellulosic,, cellulose-based or a cellulosic material, such as wood pulp or wood pulpbased or paper-based or cardboard-based material.
