Inventors include Mr. R. Ashley Jabez; Ms. G. Pradeepa; Ms. K. Sandhiya; Mr. J. Sanjay; and Dr. J. Bindhu.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to cerium(III/IV)-functionalized electrospun nanofibrous composites designed for reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging and chronic wound management applications. The invention discloses biodegradable polymer-based nanofibers fabricated through electrospinning techniques, wherein cerium ions (Ce'+/Ce4+) or cerium-based nanostructures are incorporated into polymer matrices to impa11 dual redox activity, antioxidant functionality, and antimicrobial prope11ies. The scaffold exhibits continuous RUS neutralization, improved cellular microenvironment, enhanced fibroblast proliferation and migration, and accelerated wound healing. The cerium-functionalized nanofibers demonstrate controlled ion redox cycling (Ce'+/Ce4+), mimicking natural enzymatic antioxidant systems such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase-like activity. The system provides sustained oxidative stress regulation, improved tissue regeneration, and biomimetic extracellular matrix (ECM) characteristics suitable for chronic and diabetic wound healing applications.
