Abstract: The present invention relates to a reconfigurable two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) end-effector robotic system for seated and standing upper-limb rehabilitation. The system comprises a mobile base, an adjustable-height support column, a reconfigurable holder, and a two-link planar robotic arm having two revolute joints. The adjustable-height support column enables the robotic arm to be positioned according to the user's seated or standing posture, while the reconfigurable holder enables suitable positioning of the robotic arm for upper-limb rehabilitation. The 2-DOF robotic mechanism can be used in different rehabilitation configurations without changing the main therapeutic mechanism. The end-effector provides controlled planar movements for upper-limb exercises, including shoulder and elbow movements and range-of-motion training. The system can further provide adaptive assistance according to the user's movement performance, increasing assistance when required and reducing assistance when the user actively performs the movement. The proposed system provides a compact, adaptable, and reconfigurable solution for controlled and repeatable upper-limb rehabilitation in both seated and standing conditions.
