MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076742 A) filed by Ifet College Of Engineering on June 21, 2026, for Real-Time Partial Discharge Monitoring System For High-Voltage Cables Using Current Transformer Sensing.
Inventors include Dr. M. Margarat; and R. Nivetha.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a real-time partial discharge monitoring system for high-voltage cables. The system comprises a high- voltage cable (102), a current transformer coil-based partial discharge sensing unit (104), a signal conditioning and noise filtering circuit (106), a data acquisition and processing controller (108), a partial discharge threshold evaluation module (110), a wireless communication interface (112), an IoT-based remote monitoring platform (114), and a fault alert and warning generation module (116). The sensing unit (104) detects current variations associated with partial discharge activity within the high-voltage cable (102). The detected signals are conditioned and filtered by the circuit (106), processed by the controller (108), and evaluated against predetermined threshold values by the module (110). Upon identification of an abnormal cable condition, the communication interface (112) transmits monitoring information to the remote monitoring platform (114), while the warning generation module (116) provides fault indications. The invention enables continuous online monitoring, early fault detection, remote supervision, and improved reliability of high-voltage cable installations.
